NEW MUSIC BLAG Q&A: TIA GOSTELOW

Looking for fresh, new artists? We have the ‘who’, ‘what to say’ and ‘the Q&A’.

Who: Brisbane based, Aussie Artist Tia Gostelow.

What to say: Not only has Tia Gostelow warmed up the stage for the likes of Frightened Rabbit and The Rubens, but the dreamy pop sounds of her debut album has earned her over 10 million streams.

The Q&A:

Congratulations on the release of your latest single Get To It. What’s the story behind the lyrics?

Thank you, I wrote this song almost a year ago in a session with two other people. At the time of writing I wasn’t really sure if I related to it at all but I knew I loved the sound of it and it was the direction I wanted to go in. I came back to it at the start of the year and I feel like it was the right time to go back to listen to it because it was exactly what I was going through. I’d realised that I knew what I wanted and after releasing my debut album it made me really determined to get the next one. It’s just about getting to the point and knowing that you can’t procrastinate if you want a great end result.

What inspires your song writing?

Usually big things which happen in my life that are causing me to feel some sort of way. Lately I’ve been writing about being homesick, away from my family and being in a long distance relationship. They’re the things that are making me feel a lot of emotion and things that I feel like I can write about honestly.

Having moved from Queensland to Brisbane, do you find your new music scene more lively?

For sure, there’s just a lot more going on down here and much more opportunities. There’s also a lot of industry support networks down here that I didn’t really have when I was living in Mackay.

Which other artists would you love to collaborate with?

So many! Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish and BROODS.

If you could listen to only one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Harlequin Dream by Boy & Bear.

If you could give your younger self any piece of advice, what would you say?

Just keep doing what you’re doing and follow your gut instinct.
