The Queen of Pop and the King of Britpop combine forces in this week’s epic playlist.

Madonna – I Rise

As we eagerly sit on the edge of our seats, marking off the days on the calendar until the release of Madame X we have this empowering, electro-ballad reminsicent of her Ray of Light era to whet our appetite. The Queen of Pop said herself of the track “I wrote ‘I Rise’ as a way of giving a voice to all marginalized people who feel they don’t have the opportunity to speak their mind. This year is the 50th  anniversary of Pride and I hope this song encourages all individuals to be who they are, to speak their minds and to love themselves.”

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Black Star Dreaming

Our eyes (and ears) were widened in surprise when the shimmering disco beat took hold as the group takes a departure from their usual testosterone-fuelled ballads. A low-key offering which throws in hints of psychedelia ahead of their upcoming EP of the same name.

Night House – To Be With

A tender gentleness wraps itself around warm melodies as soft vocals convey a reflective, honest fragility.

Lisabel – If Not Me, Who?

A stripped back production, with low-lying synths gently simmering in the background, places emphasis on Lisabel’s dreamy vocals as she expresses her ode to self-love with a calm resilience.

Kyan Palmer & Nicopop – Headcase

The pop pair work so well together that they’ve released their third collaboration to date. An electro-pop bop brimming with sleek hooks and enviable harmonies.

Ida Mae – Boom Boom

Disorientating rhythms pair up with razor-edged riffs as we’re given a taste of old-school, Americana rock.

Kim Churchill – When Everything Comes Undone

Toe-tapping folk indie pop which is strangely soothing despite the melancholic lyrics.

Twisted Wheel – Nomad Hat

The Northern four piece deliver a sense of urgency through a sonic soundscape and pulsating bass.

Lewis Capaldi – Hold Me While You Wait

Capaldi’s rich vocals soar above a rousing rhythm as gospel influences create a dramatic backdrop to this weep-worthy love ballad.
