NEW MUSIC BLAG MIXTAPE 290319

It’s the last New Music Blag Mixtape of March 2019 (where’s the year going, etc.) but we’re closing off Q1 in style including the return of pop icons Louise and The Veronicas, rock legends Feeder and Interpol, and new music from Liimo, Suzi Island and more….

Liimo – Get Weird feat. Lizzy Land

Edinburgh born, London based trio Liimo enlist US vocalist Lizzy Land on Get Weird – a track that fizzes with synths and electronics while telling the tale of a whirlwind romance.

Louise – Stretch

The one and only Louise returns with her first new music in many, many years ahead of a new album. This sounds quintessentially Louise and refreshingly 2019 at the same time. Perfect.

Life Is Better Blonde – My God Is Not Going To Like To You

Starting our stark, this track quickly builds layer by layer to become something trip-hoppy in places and with Moroder-like synths elsewhere. FYI, that’s a winning combination.

Interpol – The Weekend

Ahead of upcoming stops at Glastonbury and All Points East, Interpol released this lo-fi, high-energy chorus number from upcoming EP, A Fine Mess – a gritty, anthemic track that’ll be ideal for those Summer cider days.

Suzi Island – The Real Life

The Brighton based trio don’t hesitate before spectacularly diving into a sea of rich melodies and energy-driven choruses.

Gabrielle Aplin – Nothing Really Matters

Another fine slice of polished pop from Gabrielle Aplin, with a chorus that explodes with colour and beats galore.

Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird – Love Is Heartbreak

A few things to talk about: 1. What a name. There’ll be no issues searching for that on Spotify. 2. What a voice. Deep and rich and enticing. 3. This track has hints of disco yet pulls you about the dance floor in indie-pop directions you might not have expected. A belter.

Feeder – Fear of Flying

The first sign of things to come from their upcoming 11th studio album, Tallulah, Fear Of Flying features grungey, drum-led verses, a full-force driving chorus, and a hell of a hook on the middle-8 that long term fans will be more than happy with.

The Veronicas – Do You Think Of Me Instead

Aussie pop duo The Veronicas return with this slice of delectable electro pop. Part banger/part melancholy, this is a class act with a killer middle eight.

Maydar – Body Bag

Imported from Sweden , this deliciously dark pop hit packs a punch of attitude with it’s slick R’n’B beats and lyrics of revenge (which we hope doesn’t involve an actual body bag).

Emeli Sandé – Sparrow

“I got wind beneath my wings I think this time I’m gonna make it till morning I got strength within”. Miss Sandé has a new single and it’s a call to arms that equals a whole week of inspiration Instagram posts. Pop this in your ears and get running up that hill or swim that ocean or just enjoy a great soulful power ballad.

Abu – One Day

A beat which pounds straight through to your soul (if the hard-hitting lyrics don’t get there first) coupled with a soaring chorus succeeds in giving you an unexpected shot of adrenaline. Combine this track with a mug of coffee in the mornings and you’ll be all set for the day ahead.
