Name: Venus Furs
The Maths: (Cat Power + The Horrors) X The Dandy Warhols
What To Say: “They’re like The Horrors’ nice Canadian cousins.”
When did you decide that you wanted to pursue music as a profession?
I’ve known since I was 8 years old that I wanted to be a musician. My father played and taught me a bit of piano, but I had an Uncle who would always play albums from bands like The Dandy Warhols and Oasis at his house or driving in his car and since then, I knew that I was going to be a guitar player.
Which three words would you use to describe your sound?
Alternative, Indie, Psychedelic.
If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life what would it be?
That’s a nearly impossible question to answer. I’d have to cheat and choose a mixtape album that I’d made of all my favourite songs. Would “Dry The Rain” from The Beta Band be the first track? Absolutely.
What has been your proudest achievement to date?
My proudest achievement to date has definitely been finishing the album that I spent 5 years working on in the studio. That, and getting to play with bands that I love and would have seen regardless of whether we were on the bill, like The Horrors, The Twilight Sad and Acid Dad.
What do you hope to have achieved by this time next year?
By this time next year, I’d love to have done at least one international tour (it’s a dream to be able to tour in the UK and Europe), and hopefully have recorded some new material that I’m happy with!
