WHAT THE WEST END CAST OF MAMMA MIA! WANNA HEAR

Scroll this

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is just weeks from opening, and hopefully bringing a whole new catalogue of ABBA tracks to an audience of film/musical/musical film fans, rather than the purveyors of quality Swedish pop who know their back catalogue inside out. (We had a guess about what might be featured earlier this year…)

But what about the West End cast of Mamma Mia!, who embody Donna, Sophie, their friends and potential fathers on a daily basis? We asked them which songs they’re looking forward to hearing, and what else they’re hoping to find out about their characters…

Name: Sara Poyzer
Playing the role of: Donna Sheridan
Favourite song to perform: Waterloo – the song that shot ABBA to super stardom!
The song not in MAMMA MIA! you’d love to see in MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again: Lovers (Live A Little Longer). Sexiest ABBA song ever.
What else you’re looking forward to from the film: Seeing Donna’s back story – I can’t wait. Oh and Cher playing my Mum, naturally.

Name: Georgia Louise
Playing the role of: Sophie Sheridan
Favourite song to perform:Name Of The Game.
The song not in MAMMA MIA! you’d love to see in MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again: Tiger. It’s such an underrated ABBA tune and it deserves more love!
What else you’re looking forward to from the film: Hopefully finding out who my dad *really* is…

Name: Alec Porter
Playing the role of: Sky
Favourite song to perform: Lay All Your Love On Me – it’s the main song where we get to experience Sophie and Sky’s lovely relationship, and with all Sky’s jokes and showboating it is a lot of fun to sing/perform.
The song not in MAMMA MIA! you’d love to see in MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again: She’s My Kind Of Girl. It has an almost Beatles esque vibe which I really like. I actually hum this song at the beginning of one of my scenes in the show.
What else you’re looking forward to from the film: Having become very attached to Sky and Sophie’s story I am looking forward to seeing how their relationship develops and becomes stronger now they have postponed the marriage and broken free from doing what is ‘right’ or socially accepted. They now both look at the world a different way and I am excited to see what adventures they get up to in Mamma Mia 2.

Name: Richard Trinder
Playing the role of: Sam Carmichael
Favourite song to perform: SOS
The song not in MAMMA MIA! you’d love to see in MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again: Like An Angel Passing Through My Room. It’s a beautiful, overlooked song that tells a story. I like the sad ones…
What else you’re looking forward to from the film: Finding out what happens next. And seeing a load of old friends in the background..!

Name: Neil Moors
Playing the role of: Harry Bright
Favourite song to perform: Thank You For The Music, because it’s a classic.
The song not in MAMMA MIA! you’d love to see in MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again: Fernando, because Donna hums it in the musical version but it never gets sung. And it’s a classic fab ABBA song that people know and love.
What else you’re looking forward to from the film: An action packed, fun film with the great actors in the leads that bring ABBA’s music to life. And, of course, the dancing!

Name: Stephen Beckett
Playing the role of: Bill
Favourite song to perform: Take A Chance On Me
The song not in MAMMA MIA! you’d love to see in MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again: Summer Night City. It captures those hot inner city nights of my youth when you felt anything was possible, and everyone was out in the evening in shorts, skirts and vests. It’s sultry, sexy, vibrant and a little bit dangerous…
What else you’re looking forward to from the film: Finding out that Bill is actually the dad (obvs!). And seeing the hour count between each dot dot dot.

Name: Kate Graham
Playing the role of: Tanya
Favourite song to perform: Does Your Mother Know. Dancing with all our gorgeous boys is thrilling.
The song not in MAMMA MIA! you’d love to see in MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again: I’d love to hear Angel Eyes. It’s one of my favourite ABBA tracks, plus I think it has a good narrative for use in a story.
What else you’re looking forward to from the film: I can’t wait to see Cher! The ultimate Rock Chick Supremo.

Name: Ricky Butt
Playing the role: Rosie
Favourite song to perform: Take A Chance On Me
The song not in MAMMA MIA! you’d love to see in MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again, and why: Any!
What else you’re looking forward to from the film: I want to know if Bill and Rosie lasted.
