What could be better to see us out of the dark days of January? Not pay day, The Good Place on Netflix or dragging Ann Widecombe on Twitter… but a new track from Scottish trio Chrvches. Peeping over the fence from February like an overly friendly neighbour, here it is… not only was a premiere announced today, but Get Out is also ready for you right now on Spotify and Apple Music.
What to say about Get Out, the lead track from upcoming third album Love is Dead? It’s fresh. It’s good, very good. Fresh but quintessentially in keeping with the sound Chvrches have crafted over the last two albums. For record number three the group have decamped to New York and enlisted the skills of super producer Greg Kurstin, knob-twiddler behind too-many-to-mention artists of the last decade, putting his shine on tracks that have already won fans across the globe. Here it is like a polish on the bonnet of a Rolls Royce already purring like a kitten.
Standout moments are a chorus dreamed up for *that* moment at Glastonbury when you’ve had the best part of a litre of homemade G&T and the sun comes out, and a middle eight that could give the “tell me tell me you need me”s’ in Clearest Blue a run for their money in goosebump stakes. It should never be a given that the first new song in a while from a successful group is going to be good, or should be given a pass on the basis of previous glories, but really, you HAVE to hear this. This must surely pave the way for some tour announcements… come back from NY already!
